I am going to design, implement and launch a commercial iPhone game in ten weeks. And I am only going to work 10 hours per week. I will only do this by being incredibly disciplined, and my track record says that’s unlikely. But the only way of RocketHands succeeding as a part-time venture is by being disciplined, so it’s worth a shot.
I’m married with two kids. They’re in bed by 9pm, and the baby wakes up after 11pm for a feed. So I plan to get my two hours between 9pm and 11pm, five nights a week. I want to keep the day free during the weekends for family stuff, and I want the flexibility to go out mid-week, and make it up by doing a 9pm-11pm session on Sunday night.
The RocketHands Sunday sessions should help to stoke the fires of enthusiasm, as should writing this blog. Because I plan to write about every painful step along the way, posting design notes, UI concepts, prototype videos and whatever. I want to be completely open about what it is I’m working on.
Tonight I’m spending my time evaluating development frameworks. I’m not too enamoured of Objective-C, so I’m giving Airplay SDK a shot. So, even before thinking about what kind of game I’m making, I want to get a very simple something up-and-running, both on my lappy and on my iPhone. My time is almost up for tonight, and I’m not quite there yet, so let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Plan for tomorrow: Finish AirPlay SDK evaluation.

Of course, now I only have 98 hours remaining. Or should I start tomorrow? Eeeek!
I must also remember to post something about what the game actually is.
Good luck to you sir.
Best of luck to you! It’s good to have a plan when time’s tight.
